Title:Joint Least squares Migration of Primaries and Multiples

Abstract:
Conventional seismic processing treats surface multiples as noise and numerous efforts have been spent on their removal. The extra interactions of multiples with subsurface significantly improve the illumination when they are included in migration. Images of primaries and multiples are complementary if they are combined properly. However, the joint migration of primaries and surface related multiples is extremely challenging because of the existence of crosstalks. Balancing their contributions to the image is also crucial for the successful application of the joint migration. Joint least squares migration of primaries and multiples is an inversion scheme aiming at attenuating the crosstalk noises, removing acquisition footprint and produces a high resolution image. In this presentation, I will discuss the origination of crosstalks and provide a solution to address the problem using inversion.
About the Speaker:
Faqi Liu received a Ph.D in Geophysics from University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s degree in Applied Math from Chinese Academy of Sciences. He ever worked at Hess corporation as a Sr. Geophysical Advisor, he is currently the manager of migration section at Petroleum Geo-Services, and an associate editor of Geophysics.
刘法启,1989年于中国科学院计算中心获得硕士学位,1999年于美国德克萨斯大学获得博士学位。曾任中国科学院计算中心助理研究员,美国CONOCOPHILLIPS石油公司高级地球物理师,曾任美国HESS石油公司Geophysical Development Team Leader(地球物理开发部执行主任)、Sr. Geophysical Advisor(首席科学家),现任PGS公司偏移成像部门经理(the manager of migration section)。国际地球物理协会(SEG)会员,欧洲地球物理协会 (EAGE) 会员。
刘法启博士一直致力于地震勘探资料处理算法研究以及大型计算机应用软件研发。他的主要研究领域包括地震偏移成像与反演等。他在逆时偏移、各向异性介质中各种偏移算法的理论与方法、地震资料叠前全波形反演以及平面波域多次波压制方面有重要贡献,特别是他提出的基于波场分解的逆时偏移成像条件在国际上有重要影响。
